I woke/walk in the morning
I woke in the spring
watched the little sun rising over the mountain
oh love of mine
don’t you leave me this time
forest floor is full of lilies
and the ice is twice as thin
horses strewn across the field
down in the mountain
oh love of mine
don’t you leave me this time
if I found me a meadow and a little wild buffalo
would you come to me in the morning
see a little buffalo
oh love of mine
don’t you leave me this time
I woke/walk in the morning
I woke in the spring
watched the little sun rising over the mountain

in the cold dreary days when the snow falls
I’m thinking of you my dear
don’t you run
brave the cold cold winds, come over to mine
the fire will be on
I’ll pour us some wine
like a fire in the woods like a lantern gone cold
you're looking with closed eyed
don’t you fret, time has told
I can see the dogs howl
In the low low sun
and the frost on their fur, as the sled does run
the tops of your cheeks were white from the cold
your boots were stiff and tired
low behold
we froze in time, like a pond on the land

holy was the dark
the crows in the big old sky, the forest bare in bark
smoke on the water
we turned to ashes,
early in september,
oh to washes
that late autumn timber
I saw in took off in the wind
blacksmoke rising
over the mountain
oh dear you were full of fire
come with me
gently to the water
oh, well when it goes away...

you left me alone in the middle of the forest
so I spent my time
humming along to the sounds
they kept up all night
the rains came down
and the timber fell
I was overwhelmed,
and the undergrowth writhed
the birch is swayed and I wallowed
steeple amongst the black shadows
birch is swayed and I wallowed
my moonlit vigil
he went away,
he never came back for another sad day
thought came to mind
I was down by the waterside
what if you never come back
I should be full of moss
you never know what is lost
the birch is swayed and I wallowed
steeple amongst the black shadows
birch is swayed and I wallowed
my moonlit vigil

wailing from the porch I says
‘tell all the people, that I wont be there’
I’m going to rest my head, where the road bends
near the brook I hear
the cuckoo calls
dry your weeping eyes, she says
it’s nothing but hard times
soon will go
but I had only eyes for the willow/oh I had only eyes for you alone
I drank the water
and It trickled down my face
I saw a mama, a mama and her babe
you come here to take a gander
I come here to run away
the cuckoo calls
I knew our days were numbered
I drank the water
and It trickled down my face
I saw a mama, a mama and her babe
I tried to see the days turn,
and the seasons change
going up the road in may
tressed and in vein

water’s tripping down the falls
swell swell river, swell up my mind
I read your poetry over time
your heart is wandering
so your art is fine
in the shoal waters of my weary days
I counted the waves to where you lay
I watched the sparrows on the river play
It’s a sure a thing as in the winds they sway
I feel it all
I see it all
the things you see & you don’t tell
the things you see, you forget
I was a riverwild,
I was a bastard child
blood streaming down the falls
undertaker, won’t you pray for her a little
she chases waters til they fall
it’s as sure a thing as from the past he calls
down to the sea all misty from her grave
I bathe in your arms til my hands begin to bend
and I grow older, wiser
from the ebb & flow
I’m older, wiser than you’ll ever know

and the only place where love grows is in the light of dawn
when sorrow becomes a loved one
in spite of it all
spent your grey days and your gold coins
on hope that was lost
fold your thin woolen blanket
and walk away from it all
'cause whenever the snow falls
follow the foot prints that will take you home
walk away from it all
let the oceans swell and the winds blow wild
little wishes and dreams born strong
don’t forget to count them all
leave one behind for him to find
so he can follow your trails
into the dusk
the only place where love grows is in the light of dawn
when sorrow becomes a loved one
in spite of it all
spent your grey days and your gold coins
on hope that was lost
fold your thin woolen blanket
and walk away from it all

ohlala mon cheri d’amour dit moi
comment faire pour etre heureuse sans toi
only you my dou cheri d’amour
could get rid of these awful blues
ohlala mon cheri raconte moi
comment faire pour etre heureuse sans toi
only you my dou cheri d’amour
could get rid of these bayou blues
mama said what’s good in a man
is a nice behind and calloused hands
j’ai cherche toute ma vie
don’t find one without the other dear
and if you find mine won’t you bring him here
j’attendrai toute ma vie
papa said oh to be a man
you got to find yourself a little clan
a troubadour family
find yourself a woman who can sing the blues
and who can swing you round with her big caboose
j’attendrai mon cheri

if I could ramble like a mourning hound
she took off in the meadow
around here they call her a black dog
he stood to watch her go in a field of grey
all wet with snow
he drank and he played his banjo
he sang twee twang all night long
he drank and he played his banjo
warbles in the spring
oh I warble in the snow
over the mountains
wherever she go
over the mountain cold coyote calls
where is she now
over the mountain wherever she go
you hear J.V. I love you so
if I could ramble like a mourning hound
I’d wear my hair down
she took off in the meadow
around here they call me a black dog
